This is good news for those who have come into this sire's stock that are with Col. In the past two months the sire has produced winners in Australia and New Zealand and it is pretty obvious they are not early comers but begin to do things as three year olds. Col was keen on the first lot of yearlings in NZ and knowing how patient he is with young horses I am sure they will pay dividends in the next 12 months.
The previous post on this subject was written in November last year. Think it is fair to say now that DOW progeny are really starting to hit the ground. Some are winning at sprint distances but I think he is more likely to get middle distance and possibly longer performers and the more they have been taking time to learn the game the better they seem to be. Col has a couple and I think there might be a smart galloper among them.
I think the big interest will be to see if this bloke's progeny go on as four and five year olds. They make "follow me" two year olds then same as three year olds but a lot of sires in the past have had same situation only to see stock flop into maturity. Think this bloke might be okay as distances lengthen out.
Well Warning gave warming when he won at Flemington and obviously loves Flemington because that was a tough run in the Derby and he has won it easily. First Derby win that I can think of for Declaration of War stock in Australia and quite frankly on what he has shown Vegas Knight will get the Derby distance if Col's belief in him is right...and VK to me has a real touch of class.
Will if Viow and Declare can win the MC or even run a place it will further boost the stocks of Declaration of War. Seems they will at least go on as four year olds and maybe older.
Well you would not now get a youngster by DOW under 300,00[400,000. Now we know they can get the MC distance...bring on Vegas Knight. If he comes back well for the Autumn and Col's estimation that he will get 2400m says to me exciting times could be ahead.
